Embedding E-Learning
Embedding E-Learning
E-Learning is generally described as ‘facilitating learning through the use of technology’; therefore Technology should be considered the vehicle for learning to take place or the enabler.
Embedding means that e-learning becomes an integral part of the lesson and not a bolt on or something to tick a box. E-Learning should always been seen as the activity that enhances the the learning, thus enhancing the method or pedagogy.
There can occasionally be confusion between what ICT and E-Learning is. ICT is generally the productivity tools that enable e-learning to happen.
What e-learning is not is watching a Youtube video, viewing a Powerpoint, using subject specific software or using MS Office to type notes.
There are likely to be three main areas that a teacher wishes to embed e-learning. These are:
- Main lesson content – Activities or projects
- Assessments – Formative or Summative
- Support outside the classroom – Extended learning activities
