ID-100205464The use of Videos and Photos can be highly effective within teaching, learning and assessment. They are one of the simplest uses of technology and e-learning techniques and can be used in a variety or ways. On a basic level both can be used to record and evidence learners work for submission for assessment and portfolios. Video, especially, can be used to capture performances as well as tutor driven question and answers whilst completing assessments.Photos allow the demonstration of particular skills acquired overtime. Both technologies can be used to create guides and tutorials for learners or as aids to further support inquiry based learning. Furthermore generally speaking many standard phones, even older models, allow the use of video and photo. This helps empower tutors and learners to make use of alternative learning and assessment methods. There are dozens of websites that allow the use of videos and photos to be shared and enhanced to be more effective, along with almost unlimited storage options.

 

iMovie/iPhoto – These are free productivity apps on Apple iOS devices such as iPads and iPhones. They allow creative opportunities to create interesting and exciting videos using a host of templates and tools. There are many equivalents on rival smart devices, most of which are also free but not as feature rich.

Movie Maker – this is available on Windows devices and allows you to edit and create videos and slideshows. It has many standard video features and newer versions support mobile video formats as well.

Photoshop Express – this is a free online photo editor that allows the ability edit or enhance photos then export them. http://www.photoshop.com/tools

Youtube – Youtube is an effective tool for uploading and sharing video content. There are also basic editing features allowing further enhancement of your content. Youtube is also a great archive and utility for accessing a range of content that can be used to reinforce learning and offer additional viewpoints or guidance. http://www.youtube.com/

E-stream – E-stream is the Groups own Video/Media/Free-view video tool. Further information can be found here. Google Hangouts – Google Hangouts is a great free tool for recording online webinars or tutorials. Linked to Google + hangouts allow you to share video, audio and screen content with up to 10 participants in real-time. Sessions can be streamed via your Youtube channel and a recorded version can be added to your video archive afterwards. Movenote Presenter – This is a free tool which connects via Google Docs as well as stand alone. It allows the user the record a webcam and slides that can be populated from PDF or Word documents. This can be ideal for creating short revision webinars or used as lectures for the Flipped Classroom approach. https://www.movenote.com/

Pintrest – Pintrest is a social media based photo sharing tool. Users can create pin-boards of associated images and other resources then allow others to comment and share them. This can work well for tutors who can collate similar topic resources and share with learners.
